SOUTHWOOD PROJECT

Project code                                 A30757
Project period                              1 December 2008 – 31 March 2012
Total budget                                 EUR 2,178,150
Principal financier                       ERDF programme for Southern Finland
Project co-ordinator                   Lahti Science and Business Park

The SouthWood project operates within the ERDF area of Southern Finland and includes six subprojects covering five regions (Päijät-Häme, Eastern Uusimaa, Kanta-Häme, Kymenlaakso and South Karelia). The project aims to improve the business environment for wood product manufacturers and building companies across the entire production chain. This is achieved by examining existing wood product chains at the macro-level and identifying critical points that can be manipulated to enhance the competitiveness of individual actors and of the production chain as a whole. A key connecting factor between subprojects is the common need for cross-industry development. The project meets this need by linking the wood construction sector with companies traditionally belonging outside the forest cluster. Good practices produced and piloted in the project are disseminated among the subproject target areas and established as national practices through the targeted development and standardisation of sector practices.
